Hello Everyone,
Still doing research on the 386th Engineer Battalion. My father-in-law was a 1st Lt. in the unit. I have been reading the book The Corps of Engineers: The War against Germany. Very good book and has great information on what the Engineers were doing during WW2. The 386th was a general service engineer battalion. He was in the campaigns of Naples-Foggia and Rome-Arno. I beleive that it was a small platoon of 80 men. Here is a list of where his letters were mailed. Below is a guest card issued to him on 21st of April 1945. Thanks for your time.

Yes, that book is a wonderful reference tool. I've learned so much from it and it's also been a great tool for assisting all the people who have contacted me for info over the last four years.

Thanks for the post on the 386th, was not able to find any connection, but not giving up, it's like learning to ride my Harley!! Not going to quit!!
I am trying to figure out the towns that the campaigns went through for Naples-Foggia and Rome-Arno. I have had a few moments to look at the links and bring up the maps. Just need more time to research them more.
On his discharge paper it list the 92nd Engineer General Service Regiment. Don't quite understand the connection between the 98th Engineer General Service Regiment that he was in at that time.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to help with researching? It's a tough one to find much information on. Thanks.

Just a guess on my part, but many times the guys were placed in different outfits after the war, and the discharge papers would only show that unit. This is quite common.
More later... Gotta run...
