Here's the letter from John...
There are a number of fellows on our roster whom I have never met but I regret taking any name off the books. Today though I learned that we lost one who was familiar to all of us, Irving Cherney, Master Sergeant Hq Co who ran the 36th reunion for quite a while and did it well. May he rest in peace. And now there are 35 of us.36 Engineers are rugged......John Fallon II. Capt. USA Ret.
John and Marion,
Even here across the ocean I feel it each time another name is taken from the list of veterans. My deep association over the past years and even more so in the last three years, with the 36th, means I understand what it is to lose a comrade. My respect to the 35 remaining vets and as you say RIP Irving Cherney. We who remain owe him and all veterans of WW2 so much.
Colin.
Another good man gone from us. Thanks to efforts of Marion and others like here, his memory will live on. Farewell, sir!
I sent a sympathy card to his address, addressed in care of his family, but it came back. Said no forwarding address, etc. How sad. You mean to tell me there is no one to fetch his mail? So it looks like I cannot reach his family. Sigh!
