Hi Vee!
These are wonderful! The 4th Division went into Paris at this time. My Dad always regretted that he did not and continued with the groups that were fighting the Germans on the outskirts.
Serge de Sempigny recently aired his French version, there in Paris, on the Liberation of Paris. He interviewed Germans, French, and Americans. The Americans were from the 4th Division.
I don't know when there will be an English version for us to see, but even without knowing French, I got a lot out of it - it was Great. And it was fascinating to see that Serge interviewed von Cholitz's son.
I love the book Is Paris Burning and know of one mistake in it, but too difficult to change. The man who accompanied De Gaulle into Paris was my husband's Uncle, and not the name they referred to. Maybe someday I will be able to correct it.
Thank you for sharing all that you do!
Jean
Great time to be the liberating hero, eh? Fortunately nothing like that happened to me in Iraq!! In the last picture in the first set of pictures, it almost looks like the woman in the polka dot dress has an iPhone!! For a second my brain was telling me "look, that woman is taking a selfie"!!!
Oh my gosh, I didn't notice that. Maybe she was/is a time traveler. Ah!
Oooh-la-la, you naughty but smart, little girl.
Too funny!
