Hi everyone,
I'm looking for some info on were my grandfather would have been stationed (which base for training) in 1943. He was in the 34th Infantry Division 135th Company I. His MOS was Infantry 745...lived in Kentucky and was processed through Fort Thomas. I know that the Army was separating them by MOS after 1942 prior to that they all started from Camp Claiborne, Louisiana. As always THANK YOU for any help.

I hate to admit this, but since there is very little interaction on our forum anymore, I've been frequenting another WWII forum, just for some banter back and forth and the exchange of ideas about various topics of WWII.
For instance, we are currently talking about the History's Channel's, The World Wars, which just finished airing this past week. I tried to get something going here, but...
If you look around the forum and visit some of the old posts from past years, you will see that we had quite an active exchange between the members and it wasn't uncommon for several of us to be engaged in several topics at the same time. Sometimes we'd talk about WWII movies and books, or simple gab away and tell each other what was going on in our lives. I guess I just miss the camaraderie.
Don't get me wrong, the forum is still a great place and we are helping so many people put puzzle pieces back together, but there's no "free-range" of ideas anymore, and that is what I miss.
Ah just saying, just reminiscing...

Did anyone watch the History Channel's "The World Wars"? While it started off great, it was sorely lacking by the last episode. They had so many blatant errors that it made Lee and I cringe. Anyone with decent knowledge of WWII, would have balked. The worst one was how they portrayed Italy during the war. They actually made it sound like Italy was won in 1943 and that George Patton was responsible for that. Uh duh, George Patton never fought in Italy, He was the American General in Sicily.
Many times they got the clothing and props wrong too. Really! One was the uniforms shown while MacArthur was in the underground bunk in the Philippines. They should have shown the guys with earlier doughboy helmets, etc, It was simply sloppy.
The worst offender was one my hubby caught immediately. They actually showed a modern ship with missile capability when talking about the Japanese navy. Lee laughed and stated that if the Japanese had one of these during the war, it would have been over a hell of lot sooner with them winning hands down. Good grief! What, there isn't any WWII footage or photos from the war?? How about even computer graphics buddies? You do have that at your disposal, don't you.
All we can say is shame on the producers and writers. Way too many errors and this gets on TV and I can't even get anyone to look at my documentary. I did mine in house with an extremely low budget and I got my facts right. You didn't do your homework.

Military Magazine is looking for submissions for their monthly publication.
Submission guidelines
These guidelines are not intended to restrict a writer, but to provide a few basic considerations.
Military is published monthly. It is the intention of the publisher that the publication serve as a record of military history as written by the individuals who experienced it. Their stories best chronicle the way it really was.
Each month four or five stories will be published. Material about all services (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, Merchant Marines and Navy) is welcome. Every issue also has column space for readers to voice their opinions and thoughts (Guest Commentary, Letters to the Editor and Sound Off).
Military offers military-related books for review and readers are encouraged to request books offered in return for submitting a book review. The writer should provide a little personal background or reason they are qualified to review a specific book.
This additional information applies with respect to submissions.
- All stories must be non-fiction.
- Only material of a military nature that deals with U.S. Forces in WWII, the Cold War, the Korean War, the Viet-Nam War, the Gulf War and peacetime during those periods is considered. (Current situations are also given consideration).
- Short items, about 150-300 words, stand an excellent chance of being used as fillers.
- Typed submissions. We can also accept electronic files either sent by e-mail to editor@milmag.com or on a CD (in either a Macintosh format, or an IBM format converted to an ASCII text file; send two files: the original document and also an ASCII text file). There is a technical advantage to submitting copy electronically, but a hard copy of any article should also be sent along with original prints or slides. Please label your CD using a permanent marker and not an adhesive label (which can throw the CD out of balance). Always include your full name, mailing address, phone number and, if available, e-mail address in case we need to contact you.
- Photos — Please send ORIGINAL photos, black-and-white or color, in any size, as well as slides. Color photocopies of pictures cannot be accepted. We can also accept digital photos sent by e-mail or saved on a CD if the pictures are sharp enough. To ensure that they are sharp enough, they should be scanned at 300 dpi, and a minimum size of 4×5 (1280 x 960 pixels). Save them as a .jpg (medium compression) or tiff. With any pictures, please INCLUDE CAPTIONS on a separate sheet, identifying the image. Captions should be written as complete sentences and, if possible, indicate approximately where the picture was taken. We take great care in handing your photos and will return all photos submitted after publication, unless requested otherwise.
Note: Military does not pay for material published. We feel our writers write for the benefit of other readers, therefore, Military only prints submissions from subscribers. We do not take responsibility for unsolicited manuscripts or photos. Please do not send your only copy.
