Hi there,
It has been ages since I've been here! I have not dropped off the earth. Just a lot of different things. The end of last year I got really sick with a kidney infection and was hospitalized for about a week. I was a little sluggish for a while, so it was just work and rest. I am totally recovered. I still am part of a Civil War Musical group, involved in my Civil War Roundtable, I started playing ukelele and joined a uke group. I took a Powerpoint class, a soup making course and Tai Chi so far this year. I'm also knitting and crocheting for my church. Managed to squeeze a trip to Tenn. to see my best friend from Junior High who is in very bad health.
Glad to see a lot of the usual suspects here. Hope that you are all well.

Hello all and thanks for allowing me to come here. My grandfather, Daniel A Bunn, was with Company B, 21st Engineers (Avn) when it was at Langley Field, VA. I've got the company roster and Christmas menu from 1941. He was still with Company B when it was with the 824th Engineer Battalion Aviation (separate) in Iceland. I've got the menu from Christmas dinner 1943 which includes the company roster. He sure liked Christmas dinner! I've also got literally hundreds of photos from various jobs and places both in Iceland and in Europe. My grandfather died in 2010 and never really talked about his experiences and had barely begun giving my father his albums and some of the stories behind them. Some of the photos have descriptions but a lot do not. I'd love to have the opportunity to share them with others who may also be searching and look forward to possibly learning more about the Engineer experience.

Hello,
I am looking for any information on the 453rd Combat Engineers which were part of the army of occupation in Yokohama, Japan. If anyone can help, I would really appreciate the information. Specifically, what division, corp, regiment, etc. were they attached to as well as any other information.
Thanks and take care,
Ricky Day

I found a great website ( http://www.fold3.com/ ) and found a photograph of the 9th Air Force bombing the Seine River highway bridge in Mantes-Gassicourt, 20 miles west of Paris. The bridge was bombed in June of 1944. During the crossing of the Seine in August 1944, the 157th Combat Engineer Battalion built their bailey bridge (supported by barges) just above (north I believe) from this bridge. The cathedral (above and to the right of the bombing) is visible in a photograph I have of the 157th Bridge and in looking at the other photographs and current aerials of the city, you can tell exactly where the Bailey went across.
I know it has been said many times before, but war is a funny thing. We blow this bridge up to slow them down and then have to build another bridge in the same place to speed ourselves up. This bridge and site is most interesting for me because this is where my Granddad was shot through the leg and temporarily taken back to England. If this bridge was not blown up in June, he would not have gotten shot in August. Then again, they would have had a different job to do and things may have been different for the worse.
