Farewell Jack Thorpe Sr - 235th Engineer
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 07-19-2012, 08:30 AM - Forum: Announcements, Get Well Wishes & Farewells - Replies (3)

Dear Marion,

It is with a heavy heart that I send this email to you. Dad passed away this past Monday with his family around him at Van Rensselaer nursing home in Troy, NY. He always had fond memories of his comrades from the 235th. Because of your website he was able to hook up with people over the past few years, some of whom he thought dead. Thanks for all of your hard work on behalf of the veterans of WWll.

Jack Thorpe Jr.

Jack Thorpe Sr would have been 99 this Christmas Eve. We extend our condolences to you and your family, Jack. I'm glad I got to play a part reuniting him with some of his "brothers". That makes me smile.

Indeed, I had not seen this before. I will be curious to see if Todd has seen this one.

  lyrics to what song????
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 07-18-2012, 11:25 AM - Forum: Great Tunes from WWII - Replies (1)

Anyone help with this one????

I had a WWII recording of a song but I can't remember the title or the singers. I can't find the recording either. It was on reel to reel tape. A portion of the lyrics are "he dropped another load for love". This referred to dropping bombs. As I remember it, it sounded like the Andrew Sisters. Do you know what song it came from? I was not in WWII but I've studied and read a lot about it the last 40+ years.

This from a Russian Blog. Don't worry, this is the English version. Many thanks to Larry Parker for turning us onto this.
