WW2 - Allies rebuilding railroad bridges in Europe
Posted by: sixgun - 12-19-2011, 04:02 PM - Forum: WWII ENGINEERS - Replies (3)

When the allies landed in Europe towards the end of WW2 there was a desperate need to quickly restore rail services over damaged bridges. This newsreel shows the activities undertaken by the military when they were rebuilding the bridges.

  honoring my grandfather
Posted by: Mike Hinkle - 12-19-2011, 02:17 PM - Forum: ANYTHING WWII - No Replies

I just wanted to take a moment today to remember my grandfather Kenneth Hinkle, who served with the 159th Combat Engineers. On 19 Dec 1944, my grandfather was wounded in action during the Battle of the Bulge at Hill 313. He passed away in 1990, I still miss him very much. I would like to thank the many veterans that served during WWII.

A sad and tragic moment in the end of ww2. I compare this to Oradour-Sur-Glane. But they found the guilty and made them pay for it

  Dog tags
Posted by: Gloria - 12-17-2011, 01:27 PM - Forum: INSTRUCTIONS FOR RESEARCH - Replies (3)

Hey all. Please forgive the different user name, apparently I have two. :D This is the one I could remember today :D (Caryl-280ECB)

Anyway, my aunt emailed me this morning and the mother of one of her friends apparently has some dog tags that she want to return to next of kin. I am awaiting an email from her as to the era of the tags and how on earth she aquired them.

I know it's possible, and alot of work. I'm just letting you all know I might be needing your research help soon or a contact of someone that can help her. :D

Hope all of your research is going well.

Mine is almost at a dead end. Although I am going to see about getting my friends in Europe to take some current photos of some old stomping grounds :)

Caryl
