Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 03-13-2011, 12:18 PM - Forum: VETERAN'S REUNIONS - Replies (33)

Well looks like we are ON again for the combined 36th/540th Combat Engineer's Reunion in Lebanon, PA, September 2011.

We were looking for new facilities, but due to cost, it looks as though we shall remain at the Quality Inn.

Quality Inn

625 Quentin Rd.

Lebanon, PA

17042-7088

Toll-Free: (800) 626-8242 or (717) 273-6771

Fax: (717) 273-4882

I believe the following information to be accurate. Note: There may be some minor changes in cost.

Make your reservations by September 1, 2011 to make sure you get a room. Let them know that you are part of the 36th/540th Reunion to get discounted rate! Hotel rooms are $62.00 per night and includes breakfast.

Thursday- Sunday, September 22nd to 25th, 2011

The Colony Room (our hospitality suite) is available to us for all four days. Snacks will be provided, along with beer and wine.

We usually plan a nice dinner out at a local restaurant on Friday night. If you are interested, let John or I know ahead of time so we can include you in the reservations. If not, the Colony Room will be open for your use.

There will be a banquet Saturday evening. This is a semi-formal affair.

DVD presentations by YOURS TRULY will be shown throughout the weekend.

Bring your photos, books, documents, etc. We have a LOT of fun reminiscing!

------------------------------------

PLEASE MAIL $40.00 (per person) to JOHN FALLON to cover dinner and hospitality suite goodies before September 1, 2011. Let him know how many will be attending along with names, so he can prepare your name tags. Send check or money order to:

John Fallon

2459 First Ave

Avalon, NJ 08202

Nearest available airport - Harrisburg, PA (approximately 30 minutes west of our hotel)

The famous Hershey's Chocolate Factory/Museum, in Hershey, PA is located between airport and Lebanon. Plan on stopping in!

The Column of Liberation - April 23-25 2011
Posted by: angatti - 03-11-2011, 07:32 PM - Forum: News and Events - Replies (5)

During the last few years Gotica Toscana Onlus (not for profit Association) has managed relevant commemorative events in Italy as well as has participated in the most important European events like Tanks in Town in Mons (2008-2009), Normandy and Bastogne celebrations (2009). We had the chance to talk to many of you during the above mentioned European events and now we would like to invite you in Italy! Many of you have never seen Italy before or have come to Italy for holidays only. Anyway, most of you has never joined a WW2 commemorative event in Italy. It’s time to remedy!!!

This year our commemoration of the days of Liberation, which in Italy is officially celebrated on April the 25th, will take place in Verona and Mantova with an unusual concomitance: Easter on April the 24th !!! What a nice opportunity to combine together the celebration of these two events in two marvellous cities which can’t stand the moment to host The Column of Liberation under their wonderful monuments, like the Roman Arena Amphitheatre of Verona just to cite one!

  The Skadi Forum
Posted by: Mike - 03-11-2011, 12:36 PM - Forum: ANYTHING WWII - Replies (6)

"Skadi Forum : Discussion Board for Germanics."

I was doing some research the other day trying to help someone

with their father's WW II service when I ran across the Skadi Forum.

I had heard about it but was not aware that it is growing and is so

wide spread across the world. Those that are interested in what

might happen in the future should follow it's course.

What really frosted me was that the practically were deifying

Joachim Peiper SS-Standartenführer the officer in charge at

The Malmedy massacre and other murders. Read their philosophy

about Malmedy and the excuses for that massacre sickened me.

I remember all too well how often this was offered as an excuse

for being a Nazi and having taken part in atrocities.

Working as an interpreter/interrogator post war the standard

response we were given ad nausea was "I was only following

orders etc".

This site switches the burden of the Malmedy massacre

from Peipers group to the GIs they killed. Many of the participants

insist that the GIs they killed caused their own deaths and the

shooters were only doing their duty.

I would love to have some of you that have served or put practically your

whole life into helping the service prople will read and comment.

I'm not sure this quote is accurate but as I recall it "It is said that

those who ignore history are bound to repeat it"
