  157th (c) Engineer Battalion Song
Posted by: brian m - 11-22-2010, 09:47 PM - Forum: WWII ENGINEERS - Replies (3)

I have been going through and scanning a lot of the papers that my Grandfather saved from the war and came across this paper and found it very interesting... Anyone in the 157th (Mr. Whiting) know what or who the Makeshift Dog was/is???

Thanks!

Brian

  Major James Briggs, USMC
Posted by: CaptO - 11-22-2010, 07:31 PM - Forum: Announcements, Get Well Wishes & Farewells - Replies (1)

Today I had the honor of being the Officer in Charge for a military funeral. The deceased, Major James Briggs, retired as a major in 1971, and was 78. I was asked to do the honors last week as there are not many majors on base and the LtCol who was looking for one knew me (he was my promoting officer). It was a small detail, only me a sgt, and another sgt from the band who played taps. The Sgt and I posted ourselves at both ends of the casket for the service and at the end, faced toward the casket, saluted during taps, and folded the flag for presentation to the widow. I delivered the line, "On behalf of the President of the United States, the Commandant of the Marine Corps, and a grateful nation, please accept this flag as a symbol of our appreciation for Jim's service to Country and Corps." It was very emotional. Perhaps most emotional, besides the widow, was one of the great grandchildren who was present - a girl of about 9 or so. I said my condolences to all and saved the last for the girl. I was proud to be a part. Rest in Peace.

France will always have the deepest respect for them. Until the end of my life and after my sons , they will be honoured.

  Royal Norwegian Guard

Sent to me by a my WWII veteran friend, Bill on the Hill!

Great presentation. WOW! Here's what he had to say about the video you are about to watch:

This is the Royal Norwegian Guard. Pretty impressive.

(This is available in Full View)

This is "RiverDance" with boots and rifles !

I can't remember ever seeing a display of precision to beat this !!

THIS IS THE DEFINITION OF PRECISION!!

Those are US made Garand M-1 rifles

(WWII), and they are heavy weapons (9 POUNDS EACH).

When that one young fellow goes on his own - YOU'VE NEVER SEEN A RIFLE SPUN THAT FAST -

The riflemen are using the same rifle that I carried in combat. --AWJ

note the collective "Ooooooooo !" from the audience.
