The following is a funny (scary!) and true story occurring in an AP Government class at Santa Fe High School.
Marion's note: I cannot substantiate the above, but I know for a fact there ARE people out there just like the one below. If you ever listened to Jay Leno's show, and tuned in when he had various young people take part in his quiz segments, it would scare the livin' bejeezus out of ya. OMG!!!
In one civics class, the young adults were discussing the qualifications
to be president of the United States. It was pretty simple. The
candidate must be a natural born citizen and at least 35 years of age.
However, one girl in the class immediately started in on how unfair the
requirement to be a natural born citizen. In short, her opinion was this
requirement prevented many capable individuals from becoming president.
The class was just taking it in and letting her rant, but everyone's jaw
hit the floor when she wrapped up her argument by stating..."What makes
a natural born citizen any more qualified to lead this country than one
For those of you who are not familiar with Rolling Thunder, every year on the Sunday before Memorial Day, 3,000 veterans on motorcycles, (hundreds of which rode completely across the country, LA to DC with "Ride for the Wall" leave the Pentagon, pass Arlington Cemetery and parade through Washington DC straight down Constitution Ave.
It is a tremendously moving experience. Absolutely fantastic. It is estimated that 3 Million People, Families, Veterans, Bikers, and folks of all kinds pack Washington DC over the Memorial Day Weekend for this event.
There is something also very special about it.
One marine, referred to as the saluting marine, stands there on Constitution Ave and salutes at attention for three straight hours and never drops his arm. It was 92 degrees there on Sunday.
That has to kill your arm standing at present arms for three solid hours. The heat must be unbearable in dress blues. He did take a drink of water with his left hand, but never dropped his right.
Wow, I'm in tears. What true patriotism! God Bless this Marine's, God Bless America and your soldiers, past and present, who gave us this precious freedom.
Hello, I am glad that I found this site which is dedicated to the great veterans of the Greatest Generation.
