| WWII Memorial in Bedford VA |

Was speaking with Mike Morgan, editor of Army Engineer Magazine, and he was sharing his views on the memorial in Bedford PA.
He lamented:
"...Yesterday I took a drive up to Bedford, VA to take pictures for a story I'm going to do on the D-Day Memorial located there. It's an absolutely wonderful setting, but not well visited, and as you probably already know, they are having a tough time staying open due to lack of funds. The design is amazing, and I was totally awed with the reality and detail in sculpture. I got lots of great photos. As I was driving back, it all reminded me of how hard it is these days to keep people focused on our past, and sacrifices made..."

My father Raymond E Stasik, Bay City Michigan sreved in the 1346 Combat Engineers from 1943-1946. He was stationed for awhile in Michigan, Fort Custer, Louisiana, Donaldsonville and Fort Polk and in Texas before shipping out. He shipped out on the President Polk and landed in Okinawa. He later served with the occupational forces in Japan. Any information that you can provided me or directions to resources would be greatly appreciated. He is particularly interested in finding information on Lt Moran from the 1346 as well as Bill Gunn, a telegraph operator from Louisiana. Thank you in advance for any assistance you may provide.
A proud son,
Richard Stasik

Hello,
My name is John and I have been researching my great uncle 1st Sgt Clifton O. Snodgrass. He was (during WWII) a member of the 803rd Eng. Avn. Bn., sent to the Philippines in late 1941. He survived the Bataan Death March, camps in the Philippines, and Japan. I got to know Cliff well when I was a teenager and we talked about lots of things but not 1941-45. I guess I'm just hoping to maybe connect with others associated with the 803rd during that time. The more I learn about this time in his life, the more I seem to understand the way he was. I am also very interested in the 803rd itself. I know at the time it was a new concept. That's about it.

Received this review from John Fallon, 36th Combat Engineer:
"I just finished a book that I recommend highly to all of you, "First to the Rhine" by Yeide and Stout by Zenith Press. You have all read more than one book about the 7th Army from the landing in Southern France to the end of the war but this is about the entire 6th Army Group . It details the trials and tribulations of the French 1st Army as it grew after the landing and it combines it with the 7th Army. AS you read it you can understand that the two of them have to be studied at the same time because of the many ways they intermingled Divisions and Corps. Both the 540th Engineers and the 36th get a brief mention but that is more than we usually get. F Company of the 540th is mentioned as being a part of a Task Force and the 36th as it replace the 179th Infantry. If I have to find any fault with it it is the lack of maps but after all we have been looking at maps of southern France and Alsace for a long time now. Our French friends will especially like it because it is actually more detailed than any other books which normally pass the French 1st off. Read it!"
