To continue a never ending quest for the WWII history of Trier Germany, I am currently working on US railroad operations; Trier, Konz-Karthus and the Moslle and Saar Rivers in Germany.
Back in 11 Dec. 2005 Marion you had replied to a Carl, who requested info on the 347th Engineer General Service Regiment. You had a 2.82MB doc.pdf of 347th findings.
I tried to acquire it but this info. is no longer on the web, could you re-post it. Hopefully some of it may contain info that I have not already found. To date I have found limited info
for the listed units in their roles to rebuild railroad facilities (BRIDGES) or railroad operations in the area of Trier Germany. If anyone has info on these units or others, I would like to from them.
718th & 732nd Railway Operating Battalions
333rd, 347th and 389th Engineer General Service Regiments
Arthur T. Harnish did a memoir of his service with the 347th but a copy of his book has only been found in one library.
Hi. I am Ben Sanders, son of 1LT Mart B. Sanders, who passed in 1961. At eleven, I did not get an opportunity to hear many of my dad's WWII experiences, so I was delighted to discover what I am about to share with you here.
While looking through the 40th Ed. of The Official Rules of Card Games published in 1941, I found a flier for Co. E 351st Engineers 1943 Christmas dinner held in England. Attached is a file of the typewritten flier, and as soon as I can figure out how to send a small enough file of the actual flier, I will upload it.
So, if you find your relative listed and have information about this unit, I would love for you to share that information in this forum. And I will share more things as I uncover them.
Are you planing any info on the 247th my late father served in the engineering group.

Well I did find a page for the group, but there's nothing but a home page without any links. Hopefully this is going to become a viable, working site!? Looks like there is an email link in the upper right-hand corner, though.
My dad was in world war 2. I have tried to find information on the battalion he served in and can't find any. His records and the canteen I have( he carved all the cities and countries that he was in) says 1281st engineer battalion. I would love to find out more information, if you can help me I would appreciate it very much.
Thank you,
Kathryne Bailey
Okay, here we go...
There is a memoir by William Wallace but you cannot read it here. It simple lists that there is such a book.
Yes, I did find a site where supposedly you can download the E-book, but it looked very suspicious, for the site had all kinds of horrible grammatical errors, etc. DO NOT try to download the book from them! When you click on the link from Ebookdownload.com, it then tells you that you have to become a member to see the book and that takes you the questionable site. Be forewarned!
This is a link to an obit, and some of you probably wonder why I bother posting these, but sometimes people contact the families of the deceased veterans to obtain info. Many have been successful. http://henkeclarson.com/fred-albert-wallmuth/
At this point I would strongly suggest that you contact the Office of History and/or contact NARA in St Louis to obtain the unit records. Please see my Research guidelines.
I am co-authoring a book about immigrant soldiers in the US military during World War I. It will be published by Schiffer Publishing, probably next year. I am asking for information from Forum members who might have relatives who fit this category. Specifically, I'd love to see photographs of the men in uniform, diaries, letters, or even oral history memories that members might remember. Of course my co-author and I will give credit in the book for anyone who can help. This is my third book, please see my Amazon author's page for more info!
