Normandy visit - chambers - 06-09-2007 Great pics! I wish I could have gone.
A friend of mine from WBG site, Len Smith visited Normandy this year, the first time since he landed there 63 years ago.
They have posted several photos of him there and a few of them brought tears to my eyes, especially the one where he got into the DUKW and sat in the driver's seat with a big smile on his face. He wasn't there long before a crowd of people gathered to talk to him. It was great. Len is a great fellow and I am proud to call him a friend. He was one of 9 brothers serving in WWII. He drove a DUKW onto the beach on D-Day. Was caught smoking in his vehicle once and one other time, something about his hat or uniform. He spent the first few weeks on the invasion on suspended pay.
