"The War" - 3_7_I_Recon - 09-27-2007 I was hoping to find more info on the fellows who were on last night so I sat there in front of the TV with a post it pad and pen.

Daniel Inouye Senator http://www.senate.gov/~inouye/bio.html
Sascha Weinzheimer Polio survivor http://www.sacbee.com/276/story/393081.html
Earl Burke http://www.384thbg.iwarp.com/rs_earlburke.htm "The War" - Walt's Daughter - 09-27-2007 Hip, hip, hooray! Thanks a ton! "The War" - SonofaMP - 09-27-2007 There was one interview last night that i just caught part of, the mans name was Vahgie (sp?) from Bethel, CT. I vaguely remember that name from when i lived in Bethel some 40yrs ago. He might have a store there or i went to school with his son. I`ll have to dig up the old yearbook and ask mom if she remembers anything about him. "The War" - SonofaMP - 09-30-2007 You can go to www.pbs.org then go to your local PBS channel & click on The War link. Ther is biographies of all the interviewees there & alot of other info, at least there was on my local station site. "The War" - Dogdaddy - 10-01-2007 Way to go Brooke! I have seen Walt Ehlers on other documentaries about the D-Day invasion. I don't think it mentioned last night, but I believe he won the Congressional Medal of Honor ,unless I have him confused with another veteran.
Dogdaddy "The War" - chambers - 10-01-2007 Nope, you sure don't. They did mention the M.O.H. It is the same guy.
I don't know about where you all are, but after the program they are running interviews with veterans in WV. They had a fellow named Charles Brown on last night and he was a former POW in Japan. It was a very moving interview.
Brooke "The War" - Dogdaddy - 10-01-2007 I think all PBS stations are running shows about WWII Veterans after the broadcast, but they are all Regional so we see different shows in WA than you do in WV. Last night there was a show about the Japanese on Attu, and then a story about a 14 year old Washington boy who wrote a book about his Grandfather's experiences in WWII.
Jim "The War" - Dogdaddy - 10-03-2007 I had never heard the entire story of Sen. Daniel Inouye before. Talk about courage under fire! The entire 100-442nd has quite a war record. I also saw a story this morning about a little known group of Chinese Canadians who distinguished themselves when they were finally allowed to serve in the Canadian Army. PS- Please don't anybody write to tell me that the 442nd were Japanese, not Chinese. I know that already! I just mentioned the Canadian story because of the similarities in the way they had to prove themselves.
Cheers, Dogdaddy |
