Well that should get 'cha going! December 16th, 1944 Battle of the Bulge - Walt's Daughter - 12-16-2007 Woke up this morning to SEVERAL more inches of snow. This is the snowiest December I can remember in a LONG time. When I looked out the door this morning at the surrounding mounds of the white flakes, I remembered that it was the first day of the BULGE, and staring out at the vast stretches of snow, it sure put me right mood to reflect upon those December weeks back in 1944. December 16th, 1944 Battle of the Bulge - Jeeper704 - 12-16-2007 Yes, 63 years ago that "man with the Charlie Chaplin moustache" decided to ruin Belgium and Luxembourg a bit more and put the lives of US servicemen (and German too) and Belgian/Luxembourg civilians at risk again.
I have been thinking of the Veterans I write and wrote to and of what they went through in the Ardennes. The bitter cold, cruel fightings, every day trying to survive, seeing friends get wounded or killed, etc.
There are some activities going on this weekend here. Around Bastogne, there are the "Historical Walks" and a new museum plans to open its doors in Baugnez (Malmedy Massacre area). At Flamièrge, there is an inauguration of a monument to the 17th Airborne Division who fought hard in this area in January 1945.
