My short trip to Normandy last week. - Frank Gubbels - 11-02-2011 Last week I paid a visit to Normandy for a few days. I want to share these pictures with you. I hope you will like them.
Day 1.
First, we (my brother and his girlfriend joined me) paid a visit to Pointe du Hoc.
Monument for the Rangers on top of the cliff.
These are the cliffs they had to climb. about 30 meters high!!!
After that we went to Bloody-OMAHA.
We had lunch at OMAHA-beach and then we went on towards Arromanches to see the remnants of the Mulberry Harbour and to visit the Cinema circulaire.
We headed back towards OMAHA-beach to pay our respect to the fallen at the American cemetery in St. Laurent - Colleville-sur-mer. You can see the view from the cemetery towards OMAHA-beach.
Gravestone of Theodore Roosevelt.
Lesley J. McNair was killed by bombs from US airplanes in St. Lo while paying a visit to the 30th "Old Hickory" Division.

After Sainte-Mere-Eglise we drove to Brecourt and then on to UTAH-Beach were the 4th ID, under command of General Roosevelt, landed on June 6th 1944.

Finally I had the opportunity to visit the Marmion farm in Ravenoville. I had never been there before and it was high on my priority list.
And we also did some other sightseeing that day and we moved on to Cap de la Hague. A beautiful place.

Regards, Frank My short trip to Normandy last week. - CaptO - 11-03-2011 Very good photos! Thanks for sharing Frank. Someday I'll make it. . .Someday. My short trip to Normandy last week. - Dogdaddy - 11-04-2011 Frank- Thank You for sharing these excellent photos with us. Chances that I will ever get to visit these places are slim to none, and your always great pictures of WWII sites allows me to get closer to them through the eyes of a friend, rather than just a DVD or books. As often as I may lament the negative aspects of the "www.everything" world we live in today it has allowed all of us to "visit" anyplace we wish. My short trip to Normandy last week. - chambers - 11-05-2011 Awesome... thanks for sharing. I wish I lived close enough to something this cool.
