Goodbye my buddy! I shall miss you! Farewell Irving Cherney - 36th Combat Engineer - Walt's Daughter - 10-09-2012 Here's the letter from John...
Farewell Irving Cherney - 36th Combat Engineer - colinhotham - 10-10-2012 John and Marion,
Even here across the ocean I feel it each time another name is taken from the list of veterans. My deep association over the past years and even more so in the last three years, with the 36th, means I understand what it is to lose a comrade. My respect to the 35 remaining vets and as you say RIP Irving Cherney. We who remain owe him and all veterans of WW2 so much.
Colin. Farewell Irving Cherney - 36th Combat Engineer - CaptO - 10-13-2012 Another good man gone from us. Thanks to efforts of Marion and others like here, his memory will live on. Farewell, sir! Farewell Irving Cherney - 36th Combat Engineer - Walt's Daughter - 11-04-2012 I sent a sympathy card to his address, addressed in care of his family, but it came back. Said no forwarding address, etc. How sad. You mean to tell me there is no one to fetch his mail? So it looks like I cannot reach his family. Sigh! |
