WWII Army Photos

I found this searching around on a smoke break at work (I don't smoke.) It is an army web site and it has great pics. This one is a scene that not only all of the veterans of WWII would have lived through but everyone else in the military up my OCS in 1999 would also recognize. We were still using the very same shelter halves designed before WWII (probably some of the very same ones!)

Sure brings back memories. In the pic. Looks like the first two have shoulder

patches that look like the 34th, (Red Bull) patch. Maybe not. Those shelter halves

I carried one half and the pegs. My buddy Ken Ryan, the other half and poles.

I will attach a bigger image of the photo cropped down to see the patches. The caption to the photo says that they are 87 Infantry Division:

Second Army Tennessee Maneuvers. The Layout. Company F, 347th Inf Reg., 87th Inf. Division, stands by for inspection by the Commanding General, Major General Percy Clarkson. (8 May 43) Signal Corps Photo: 164-007-43-989 (Sgt. J. A. Grant)

Here's the 87th insignia:

I will admit that the 34th insignia is a pretty close match from the small picture. I'll attach it, too.

My local town library has a thin book on the 2nd Tennessee Army or something to that effect and it covers the maneuvers in middle Tennessee. They also trained some armored units there and a portion of the Rangers. There are not a lot of info as to exact history and what units were there. The book is written more as a local story.

I recently bought an aerial photo map that was near McMinnville, TN. The area contained in the map may be part of the area used by the maneuvers.

I would like to read more about the Tennessee Maneuvers. I'm more familiar with the Louisiana Maneuvers but there is still not much out there.

CaptO; Thanks for clarifing this. I missed the background of the patch. (round), the

backgroundof the RED BULLpatch is a Jar called (OLLA), Mexican water jug. You are

right, thereis a resemblance. Thanks again. Roque
