291 engineer combat battalion
#1

I’m looking for all the info I can get on the “291st engineer combat battalionâ€.

They did a real good job at the Malmedy/Stavelot perimeter in the Ardennes by blowing up a bridge to prevent the Peiper panzer div. to cross the river .

They were also the first Bn to witness the Massacre of Malmedy where the Krauts executed 82 POW.

I’m doing some research on Captain Paul Kamen , who got KIA somewhere around Remagen 3 days before the end of the war .

I can use all the info you guys got .

Thanks

I have spend many years researching that area where the 291st Engineers saw action. I have written 4 books on the Battle of thge Bulge, and in one bookm 'Seize the Bridges' you will find the stories of those men who fought there, and stopped Kampfgruppe Peiper at several bridgs on his way to La Gleize.

Hi Wijers,

Was wondering with all of the material you researched and the books that you wrote, do you have information on where and what the 291st Combat Engr. was doing from April 45 through May 46? My father was inteh 3rd Army 291st Engr. Combat BN as a Tech 5, but he did not arrive in EAMET until 11 April 45 and left for the USA on 15 May 46. So I know he hwas not there for the Battle of the Bulge. Most info that I can find on teh 291st, and believe me I am a total rookie with this talks about the Battle of the Bulge and right after. I am unable to speak to my father about this as he passed away 2 years ago.

Thanks

Let's hope he gets back with you on that Sandy. And welcome to our site. I'm sure you've seen all the posts regarding the 291st, but if not, here's a comprehensive list on our forum:

Do you have any photos of your dad? We'd love to see them.
