74th Engineer Light Pontoon Company
#1

Hi everyone. It has been a LONG time since I visited here. Sorry it took so long, but work (new job), studies (picked them up again) and family life (wife is expecting twins any moment now...) have taken my time and I haven't been able to do much WWII research. Hope you can forgive me Marion!

But I am picking that up again and am looking for info on the 74th Engineer Light Pontoon Company. On line I can't find anything at all, so I am hoping people here might know. basically everything I need; What was the history, what unit was it attached to, etc.

I am also looking into the only casualty buried in Europe of this unit; Pfc James S. Lukacs, who was killed on 19 May 1945 in a non combat related incident.

Any information would be more than welcome!

TIA,

Stevin

PS: WOW! I am a Major!

PS2: this topic might have to be moved to another section on the forums here....Things have changed!!! -o-

Man have I missed you big time. So happy to hear from you. I knew that there might be a baby on the way, so knew you had your hands full with family, school and more. But now I hear there are two babies. WHOOOO-HOOOO-HOOOOO! Congrats and love and hugs to your dearest!:wub:

I have been busy too. I didn't even check my email for two days. You know that's unusual for me! Got a lot going on here at the house (all good though), and I'm swamped with things right now, so I'm not going to be on the net as much as I usually am over the next several weeks. Don't have to explain that to you do I?

Hey, BTW, you did post in the right spot. Will see what I can come up with for you. It may take a bit longer than usual since my list is long, but I am more than happy to see what I can do.

The best to you and welcome back. I'm just glad to hear from you and happy to hear that all is well future papa!

Hi Custerman. Thanks for that. I do believe I found somewhere that early on in the war they were either in the pacific or on the west coast of the US, ready to go to the Pacific. But I am not sure. Information was so scant that I didn't bother recording it. Would perhaps fit in with the unit commemdation in 1942 however.

Also consider contacting Michael Broadhead at the Army Engineer's office of history, to see if they have a folder on this unit.

You may also wish to contact Richard Horrell of WWII Connections, to see if he has a book on this unit in his extensive collection.
