Hello folks,
Just wanted to share these nice pictures I obtained.
They're of men of the 4th Armored Division.
The pictures are big and show great detail.
Major Riebold (of Riebald) R Irving & Master Sergeant Joe Crown.
If I'm correct, Major Riebo(a)ld was in the 25th Cavalry Recon judging from his insignia.
Unidentified 1st or 2nd Lieutenant.
Too bad the photo had no name on the back.
If anyone knows more about these men, feel free to let me know.

Hello Brooke,
Do you know what unit?
I'd love to hear more about it if you please.
And if you have a photo of him, please post it here.
Thank you,
Erwin

Erwin,
His name was Charles E Chambers but everyone here called him Sam.
I have only one photo of him but it was long after the war. I don't know anything about his service except for the fact he was in the 4th Armored. He passed away when I was 4.
I do have a copy of his DD214 paper. It is the only thing I have to go on.

If you have his ASN, you can look him up in NARA online.
There are several soldiers with that name.
You could ask the IDPF 293 file at:
FOIA OFFICER, Department of the Army
ADMIN Section, ATTN: TAP-ALP-A (FOIA)
DCS Personnel & Logistics

Alexandria VA 22332-0405.
USA
Maybe you knew about this already?

I sent off to someplace (NARA I think) to get his medals last year. I did receive them, but on his DD214 there are 2 different numbers listed. I don't know which one is correct. It was just a simple typo with 2 numbers transposed but can make all the difference in the world.
They called and I gave them both numbers and he said, "ok thanks", didn't tell me which one was in fact Sam's.
Was this the same source you are talking about?

Hi,
No, this is another agency.
I'm glad you obtained his medals.

So what kind of info could I obtain from this source? My grandad has been wanting to locate a copy of all his orders and where his unit was.

Hi Brooke,
Besides the IDPF293 file - but that is for deceased persons - you might get additional information concerning your grandfather's service.
It is possible they will refer you to another service though.
It doesn't hurt to write them though.
As you are a relative, you might have more luck than me.

Here, you can find the DD214 file, citations, General Orders and - if available - even a photo the soldier.
Greetings from Belgium,
Erwin
