You folks have a lock on the mostust more emocons!!! ... and miltary ones to boot! Hoooya!
I tried to upload and insert a few of our JP's but they were all over size limits apparently.
Got any sugestions on sizing them down? I'm still in the baby end of the swimmng pool when it comes to tech. All were taken wth my Kodak digital and are just over 1 meg.
Also - would you prefer that I post some jpg's here and there on this thread or start a 208th thread in the chat room?- or maybe you would eventually rather explore a 208th ECB "TheFighting Dozer" unit history section where folks might more easily access them? Just lemme know your desires!
Lastly I can send you an email with some examples of the maps and 208th member info if you'd like to review first to get a feel for things.
Sorry for any typos... My kyboard seems to be missig a letter in about every other word. Not sure what is ging on but it is drivin me knuts..
I don't know what photo programs you have, but all have ways to resize your photos. The reason I have limits is because server space is always precious and it costs money, so to help that along I've had to enforce some laws. If I didn't people would be loading photos that were 2000 X 3000 and/or images that were 2 or 3 or 4 megs. Therefore I ask folks to do some homework before they get here. Hey I'm an ex-school teacher and I always expect people to do their homework.
Posting photos right here is fine, or start another post in the Engineer section. That is cool also. The Chat Room is just for instant chatting and I hope it will be a fun place for everyone here.
You're doing great so far and I bet that within a few weeks you'll be a seasoned VI Corps Forum Veteran!

Thanks and I appreciate the size issue re: the pics.
I have delved into the deeper waters and found my MS Office has a photo editor and I was able to down size pic of 208th Daughter 's Da's name from our maps.
I'm going to attach to this message one of the overall 208th ECB map shots - Normandy to Deutchland - then go give Dad a hand with some chores.
BTW the back of these maps has the whole chronology of the 208th so I may look at transcribing it for the good of the order - on a rain or snowy day of course...
Maybe you and 208th Daughter can let me know how you'd like to go from here, but I think with all the maps, bridge drawings, unit chronology and names, etc. we ought to have the makings of a pretty nice summary of the Fightin' Dozers that would make our Dah's proud.

Hi, I'm back! Here is a photo of my father, Harold O. Nelson of the 208th Engineer Combat Battalion, WWII. My Dad was 35 when he was drafted, and in this photo, he just turned 38. He married three years later, and had four daughters. We had a whole lot of fun with Dad.
My father passed away in 1976 although he is still with me in my heart.
This photo was taken at a lake near Berlin in 1945. Handy Randy's father said that it appeared that my Dad was standing on a pier on Schwansee (sp?) Lake which was near Berlin.
It's awesome that the two of you can share some history regarding your fathers. And thanks for that photo in Germany.
Your dad like mine, married late in life. My dad married my mom when he was 38 and they had me the following year. I too had a lot of fun with my dad. So many wonderful memories. But as with your dad, much too short.
The other day I was looking at his photo and wondering what he would have looked like if he was still living. Well one thing I know for sure; his smile would have never aged...

When the 208thECB was stationed in Berlin after the war, they played a football game against the 82nd Airborne. Churchill and Marshall Zhukov were in attendance at the game. According to another 208th son, the 208th beat the 82nd and Marhall Zhukov cheared for the 208th because they were in red.
My 208th friends from Kansas and Missouri did not share these details with me, I will check this out with them.
Here is a photo: Lew Grace is on the left (group of three). I don't know who the others are.
Question: when you find a photo on the Internet, do you have to get permission from the owner to use it yourself? I found another photo of that football game that is better than the two that I have in my collection.
Standard procedure is to ask permission to use a photo, but it is also acceptable to place the photo on a site as long as you give credit (if it is known).
This is always the case if you are using a known photographer's photos, but many sites will plainly state their policies on their home page. Many of the WWII sites will say something to the affect, "Feel free to use these photos...", or "for public use..."
You will also see some photos with copyrights right on the photo.
I hope that helps you.
