Hello! His name is Lawrence G Kowalski. He served in WWII, 36th Engineer Combat NM, 2828 Company C, as Tech 5. Thank you for any help. God Bless! :) Photos attached. post-1584-0-51880500-1354502049_thumb.jpgpost-1584-0-46441800-1354502185_thumb.jpg

Ann I have no direct information on your Grandfather except that he appears in this list of 36th Combat Engineers if you scroll down to Company C.

I have an interest in Sicily and would like to know if you find anything out about him and his service there.

Check my profile here.

Hello Ann, welcome to the forum. We have a lot of documentation on the 36th Combat Engineer Regiment on the main site under the "Engineer History" tab, http://www.6thcorpsc...s.com/36th.htm. Marion can put you in touch with several veterans of the 36th.

Your grandfather enlisted on 15 April 1942 at Fort Custer, MI. He resided in Alpena County, MI. Date of birth: 1915

His Army Serial Number is: 36180686

I might question his being in Company C, Company C was in 1st Battalion & !st Battalion was redesignated the 2826th Bn.

The 2828th Bn was formed from 3rd Battalion, which had "G" "H" & "I" companies.

My thinking is he was in "G" company instead of "C".

Good point Larry. Ya, since there were 3 battalions, they would have been as follows:

2826 - A, B and C

2827 - D, E and F

2828 - G, H and I

So I agree, it would have been G Company.

Gloria, when you initially wrote to me, you didn't state that he was a 36th Engineer, and that is why I didn't add you to the 36th Email List, nor forward your information to the veterans and their families. Now that I know, I can do this, this morning and put you directly in touch with them. If they recognize the name, then I'm sure one or more of them will get in contact with you.
