Thanks for the info guys. This clwears up some of the stuff rattling around in my head. Since the headstone he has was not a gov't headstone, the family had that info abt the 90th put on there. Who knows where they got it...
Colonel, I apprecaite the suggestion about the IDPF. I had considered it, as I have on other cases I am working on, but the last time I tried to get one, they told me since I was not uimmediate family I could not have a copy. But, that doesn't mean I shouldn't try again...and I probably will!

My Dad brought home the official history of the 179th Engineer Combat Battalion and I have it both in paper form and electronically. It list every solider, medal and accomplishment including battles as the 179th was formed on D Day +61 to the end of the war. I am getting it ready to share and can be contacted on this site.
