Larry - you enriched my life in so many ways and you changed my life forever with your research! You provided new information that will remain documented and available to the world forever! Your efforts were priceless!

 

You did everything with no expectation that you would receive anything for it.

 

The only thing I ever sent you was an unframed photograph. And that was something that you really wanted. We had so many belly laughs over it. You had such a refreshing child like approach in your one and two word responses to my couple of sentence emails. No one will ever be created again that will be like you. It is not possible!

 

My heart aches over the loss of you! I will miss you until the day I die!

As you can imagine, it was hard for me to come to the site.

 

You, like Larry the Legend, have both been so kind and generous to me.

 

I was quite amazed with the news you had here. The photo is spectacular. Is there any way for you to learn more about the photo.

 

I wonder where the photo came from? Is it from a book, a postcard, or? I wonder what month in 1944?

 

Do you think they would let you see the original?

 

If it was worth it, on that imaginary future next trip, we could try to photograph it or maybe they would let you.

 

I am not on Facebook - someday may sign up with the business name. I am not on any social networks.

The fact you heard from the Mayor and /or his staff, I remember when you wrote, is really something. Congratulations!

 

I am going to try to print the photo and try enlarging it. Oh how I would love for Sister E. Koch to see it, if she is capable of that. I wonder if it is something you would want to do. Maybe she would tell you details that only she would know.

Marion, YOU and your website and all of your dedicated efforts just keep bringing in the people and information.

 

Your new topic on the 97th Division is incredible. That is the Division that took Siegburg. It is a different Regiment - 303rd, but everything on the Division is of great interest to me.

 

How fortunate we are that there are people like the gentleman who has retained these precious records and now is trying to preserve and share them!

 

He clearly shares qualities that the Legend of Larry shared with us.

Thanks for your very kind words Jean. I certainly appreciate them. Sometimes it's easy to feel like all this is taken for granted, then I hear from many people such as yourself, and it makes my day.

 

I am really trying to go "gung-ho" this month and get as much posted as I feasibly am able. I am also going to try and post the rest of my the documentation from my father's unit too. I have made great progress, but still have a ways to go. Hearing from you gives me that extra incentive that I need from time to time. A good swift kick in the you-know-what! :bluejumper:

Man, can't believe Larry is not here to work with us! I received the book honoring Larry from the WW2 Museum, regarding the brick, and am waiting for the one on his Dad. Then I will send everything off to his wife.

 

Thanks to you and Larry, and of course Marion, I have so much more knowledge and a deeper understanding of this part of my Dad's life.

 

That was a fascinating story from JPaul on Waldbrol. I think if we could speak to him, maybe in person, we could gather more information from him, just because of the questions we could ask. Not sure about his Stalag 6G but there is the date of the fire to use as a reference.

 

Oh, so much I want to get back and work on!

Received a message from a veteran who was there:

 

69 years ago tomorrow (Wednesday), April 9, the 97th attacked across the Sieg river and into Siegburg.

It started at about 4:30 in the afternoon, their time.
