To Marion and the wonderful people of VI Corps.
Once again I think I have started with some mis informantion and because of this wasted some of your valuable time. For that I am truly sorry. Here is what I discovered that makes me think I screwed up.
Under organization his discharge has Company F 9th Infantry. So my pea brain leaped to the conclusion that it was 9th Infantry Div. I fear the Division part is wrong because in the Decorations and citations block after Purple Heart it has GO 56 (or General Order 56) Hq. 2nd Inf. Div 12 May 45.
Am I correct in assuming (yes I know what assuming really means) that he was a part of the 9th Infantry under the 2nd Infantry Division?
I went to a 2nd Infantry Division Web page and under order of battle found 9th Infantry as a part of it. Unit history has them comming ashore at Normandy on D+1. Am I off to the races or have I wrongly jumped to another conclusion?
He must have been just like all Vets who earned the CIB in that it is plain to see that he most valued his CIB and Purple Heart over everything else from the war because that was all he kept. My wife says that he always kept them in the little Purple Heart presentation box.
Marion and the gang......I am sorry for wasting your time and will try to be more careful in the future.
