No apologies necessary. Sometimes it's difficult to ascertain what unit men were with. Confusing the regiments and divisions is VERY EASY to do and you aren't the first one to do so.
As far as a waste of time; it isn't. The info will be helpful to many others, so certainly won't be wasted!
Here is some info on the 2nd Infantry Division. There regiments were 9th, 38th and 23rd.
