This is the FIRST time in eight years, I have ever received a letter from anyone in the WWII community, informing me about copyright infringement. I honestly didn't know you did anything in wrong, for you gave credit to the author.
You can't post a poem on a not-for-profit website? You don't even have advertising to defer any costs what so ever. So what gives? Thousands of sites post song lyrics. Do all of them really have permission? And Youtube! You can take TV shows and clips from movies and post them and that doesn't seem to be a problem. It seems as though this gentleman is probably Googling for his works and emailing sites that have them. He did give permission, but the threat was, as you point out, uneccessary. It does seem very strange to me.
