As far as I know the deceased was returned to his hometown as many other american soldiers who were killed in WWII or later, and is now in Bowman, Pike County, near Petersburg:

You know this page for sure. Why he was buried there is an interesting question because he died after the war when his division was already in Berlin as occupying forces. Maybe he has been injured at Market Garden? Petersburg is just a small town of 2383 (Wikipedia) inhabitants, some of them are Burkharts like one of the jailers at pike county sheriff's office, if you google a bit and write some e-mails, you might find some relatives of Doland L. Burkhardt there.
