Received this letter this morning and am posting it here for Eddy:
Hello. My name is Eddy Stewart. My Grandfather was drafted in 1944 at the age of 28. He told me he was in the 111 th Combat Engineers Attached to "Pattens 3rd Army". He also mention the 41st Infantry but I am not sure where this comes into play. His name is Charles Edward Dunn (the men referred to him as "Uncle Ed" because he was older than most of them) and today he is in his 90's. He advised me that they were sent to Louisianna, then to Oregon, Boston, Glassgoe Scottland, Berry Island, France and Germany to the Muse River (in that order). He said at various time there was a Major Bitney, Col. Shingler, Capt. Reeves with them. Some of the mens names that were with him are: James Crutchfield, Brooks Crutchfield, Jesse C. Dobbs, Bettis Coleman, Carl Halsford, Mr. ? Fraga, Arthur Engle, and two Duncan brothers. I am having trouble locating information on his unit and if you happen to have come across any info on it, please send it to me. Thank you, E. Stewart.
