Dear Eddy:
Will be more than happy to try and help out and thank you kindly for writing and sending the photos too!
If you click on the link from my forum, you will see info regarding the 111th Combat Engineers. I have also placed a link from the 36th Infantry's Division site. Both the posting on the forum and the 36th's site show that your grandfather's unit was part of the 36th. A very fine unit. In fact my dad's unit was ATTACHED to the 36th for a period of time. So your granddad and my dad could very well have walked in the same places at one time or another in 44 or 45.

Here are some other links regarding his division:

You may also want to visit the message board and join. This is a great place to include his info. Others will see it and perhaps recognize his name or the names of the men he remembers. Wouldn't it be great to be contacted by other members of the engineering unit?

In fact I can take you right to posts within their forum regarding the 111th:

I strongly suggest that you also contact Michael Brodhead a dear friend of mine who is the head historian at the Office of History, Army Corps of Engineers. They have folders on almost every engineering unit from WWII. That is how I began my search for my father and wound up with tons of docs. A real find!

I will also see if I have any further info here in my office. If so I will let you know.
I am going to also post your letter and my answer to you on the forum this morning. This often helps others and someone may also see your request and respond. This has happened time and time again on my site.
Warmest regards,
Marion J Chard
