I will send you a email on NARA. I went there a couple of years ago and what a facility!!! It is great doing research there but I advise that when you visit, you let them know in advance what you going to need, as you might end up waiting quite a while. I have a contact in NARA that is very usefull. It is possible to have the documents you need sent to you (on photocopy or microfiche).
My original plan was to go to NARA, but that will not be possible in the near future, but several friends that I met through my research told me they sent away for their requested folders. So that is also going to be my plan of action.
One gentleman just got a quote from them on his requested engineer's unit. They had 9 folders of printed material and it was going to run approximately $260.00.
I plan to contact them soon. I am trying to save up money to cover the costs. I know there is quite a bit of material on the 540th.

Like I said I have a bunch of MACRs on Microfische, but can't remember what I paid. Thing is, if you order one, you get a microfiche with that one and about five others as well. So, if you calculate it, you can end up with, say, 20 Marcs for the price of one. Only order one on that Microfiche and then the next one on another microfiche....
It can be a expensive business. I am now trying to appraoch people who I know have materials I am interested in and ask them for copies in exchange of a contribution in the cost that they incurred, say half. This way you'll get what you want cheaper and quicker, although you do have to find the people and they should be willing to do this, of course.

You got that right. I met a guy in person who spent the day in DC copying info on the 910th FA (85ID) and I've been trying to contact him about getting copies. No luck.
I thought you were the one who asked if my Dad's unit had any records. I ordered the Ops Reports and the General Orders. I don't think they had any After Action Reports. I have the Ops Reports for the 328FA on my website.
Can't you order printed copies at all?
When I ordered these back in 1980's, I thought I paid a fortune. It was $57 for about 100 pages or more. The General Orders has helped find names of various GI's and info on the Purple Hearts and Good Conduct awards. It is the only thing like a roster that I have.
I recently inquired to the Army Medical Museum in San Antonio (Ft Sam Houston) and I believe they directed my inquiry to Carlisle Barracks or maybe they just told me to write there for a copy of GO. So, I NEED to write Carlisle Barracks. So any help will be grateful.
