Thanks everyone for the info, I'm not as confused as I was before.
Once I get mine dug out, I'll post pick of it. I love this uniform as it was my first 'official' WWII uniform and the thing that really makes it special was that my wife (at the time girlfriend) bought it for me.

one more thing to add.I once read that the36th's seahorse was a pocket patch but have never seen one on the pocket. was this sewn on Ike jackets like Marion's.

I've seen several examples of uniforms with the seahorse patch and I think they have always been on the pocket.
The patches on Marion's Ike jacket makes sense. The Engineer unit was assigned to the II Corps while in Italy and then was placed under the command of 7th Army for duty in France.
