Here's a photo with an interesting history. This is what Jim relayed:
This is a photo that can be found on the website below. This was a boxer named Billy Conn, who was from Pittsburgh, PA, and one of his boyhood heroes. He never dreamed he'd be on his website. The photo can be seen there under Photos/Publicity.
Jim received a letter from Tim Conn, the son of the boxer:
Billy celebrating with the troops at the 191st General Hospital in Paris France on VE (Victory in Europe) day, May 8, 1945 (courtesy of Jim Hennessey - center, back row, arrow).

My grandfather, LTC John C. O'Brien, CO, 2832nd Bn, during his infantry training at Fort Knox in 1936. When called to active duty in 1939, the Army noticed that he had a civil engineering degree and said, "Guess what. . ." - from there on he was an engineer. The last picture is from WWII. Without color its difficult to say whether he was major or LTC at the time. The man in the middle is the XO of the group, I believe. No ideas on the captain on the right. -Todd O

Great timing there CaptO! I am currently working on the "camp" section of the documentary, and your words will fit perfectly into the segment!!
I may be able to name a few individuals in the one photo, but at a future date.
Thanks!!!!

Many of you may have seen this photo of Rocky on his page on the main site, but now it's even more interesting because of the following letter I received this week, along with a photo. Placing both photos here:
Hello Ms. Chard, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the picture of Rocky Riojas receiving the Bronze Star award. I have attached a picture of my dad, Roger L Elliott, receiving the same award apparently at the same place, note the (speaker?) in the background. I would very much like to contact Rocky thinking that perhaps they knew each other. My dad died in '50 in a car accident when I was 9 years old before he could tell me any war stories. Perhaps Rocky could tell me something about my dad. We live in Hollywood, Md. about 60 miles south of D.C. I also have some pictures similar to what is on your site....
Sincerely, Shelton R. Elliott

Here is another picture of my grandfather - now that I got my scanner working!
This picture was taken in about 1999 or 2000 so it was only a few years before he died in 2004.
I always loved this picture because that's how I remember him most of time; laughing and having great time. I'm sure those who knew him from WWII would probably have the same remembrances even though the part of his life they shared with him was hardly a fun one.
