1346 Combat Engineers
#1

My father Raymond E Stasik, Bay City Michigan sreved in the 1346 Combat Engineers from 1943-1946. He was stationed for awhile in Michigan, Fort Custer, Louisiana, Donaldsonville and Fort Polk and in Texas before shipping out. He shipped out on the President Polk and landed in Okinawa. He later served with the occupational forces in Japan. Any information that you can provided me or directions to resources would be greatly appreciated. He is particularly interested in finding information on Lt Moran from the 1346 as well as Bill Gunn, a telegraph operator from Louisiana. Thank you in advance for any assistance you may provide.

A proud son,

Richard Stasik

Hi Richard, welcome to the forum.

There doesnt seem to be a lot of info on the 1346th Engineer Combat Battalion available.

It appears they went overseas as occupation troops after VJ-Day.

Occupation Credits: 15 September - 4 November 1945, for Okinawa and 5 November1945 - 5 March 1946 for Japan

Not sure if you're still checking here, but I just came across your post in a google search for the 1346 Engr Combat Bn. My dad was in that unit and I am just going through hundreds of letters he wrote home during the war. He died in 2010 at age 99 y 7 months, and I found the letters while cleaning out his house in 2011. I think at least one of the guys you named is mentioned. But I have a lot more work to do to review and take notes on all the letters.

I strongly encourage everyone to never post their email address on any forum or other public venue, for you are simply opening a potential floodgate of trouble from people with ill-intent. Forum members can reach each other through private messaging. :pdt12:

I eagerly await the posting of your dad's letters, someday in the future. Such a treasure.

I hope you are able to reach Richard. I would also send a PM to him this week.

I know this thread is pretty old, but it is related to a photo that I found.

I have the original negative, and all the information I have about this photo is: "1945: 1346th Combat Engineers, Lieutenant".

If somebody has any information or knows any history about this image, please let me know. I would love to learn more about this tiny piece of the history!

Best regards,

Reginaldo.
