551 PIB à Aroun
#1

Upon arriving at Auron, the paratroopers of the 551 took courses of ski in order to leave in patrol. It was difficult but they ended up arriving there.

Auron ,and a small station of sport winters in the 06, with 40min of Nice. On the spot exact where the paras were.

The 551st GDP was created in 1942 with the aim of being deployed in the Pacific.

After training in Panama (where the palm tree on the helmet) he was sent to Sicily, and then participated in ANVIL DRAGOON.

From September to November 1944, it was sent in the MARITIME ALPS to face the German Alpin hunters. .

In December 1944, he fought in the Ardennes near Stavelot, NOIREFONTAINE.

The fighting was terrible, and the battalion suffered 82% loss, so it was integrated into the 82nd Airborne.
