TRANSFERRED TO THE HAWAIIAN WAR PLANS AND SELECTED FOR OFFICERS CANDIDATE SCHOOL IN 1943. TRANSFERRED TO FORT BELVOIR, VIRGINIA FOR 6 WEEKS TRAINING AS A COMBAT ENGINEER OFFICER. TRANSFERRED TO ITALY IN 1943. ASSIGNED AS A LIEUTENANT; COMPANY A; 39TH COMBAT ENGINEERS REGIMENT. SERVED AT ANZIO BEACH, ITALY. WOUNDED IN 1944 LOSING RIGHT LEG AND PART OF LEFT FOOT. RETURNED TO NAPLES, ITALY. SERVED 1940-1947. RETIRED A CAPTAIN. AWARDED THE PURPLE HEART, 2 COMBAT RIBBONS FOR ITALY AND A COMBAT RIBBON FOR PEARL HARBOR, AMONG OTHERS.
