Great Uncle Tom
#1

My grandpa's older brother Tom has taken ill. He has been in the hospital for about 2 weeks now with internal bleeding and is not doing well. Tom is quite the character and is 84 years young.

Tom was in the 42nd "Rainbow" Division and was in Panama when war broke out, he served from April 1941 to August 1945. Among Tom's medals is the purple heart which he displays in a case with his others and on his combat wounded licence plate. His discharge papers mistaking list wounds received in action NONE.

Tom received a certificate last Christmas for his membership in the VFW ever since he came home. He has been active for years in the VFW and military funerals.

Tom was one of 4 brothers in the service.

Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Brooke, Tom is 84!!!!! Like we say in spanish, HE IS MY COMPADRE!! See if Marion know what that is. It means we are buddies of the same age! He will be in my prayers. Tell him to read Psalms 121, that should lift his spirits up-. May God Bless him and watch over him. Roque

Brooke:

So sorry to hear this dear. Our thoughts and prayers are with him. Internal bleeding is a very tough and rough thing to go through. :(

Thank you for posting this and sharing part of his history with us.

Update on Tom:

His daughter said they hope to get him home by Christmas so this must mean he's doing better.

Although Tom did not make it home before Christmas he was home shortly after New Year's Day.

He is doing well and has a healthy appetite again. Unfortuneatly during his battle with a bleeding ulcer he lost a lot of weight and lying in a hospital bed for nearly 2 months has weakened his legs. He feels up to exercising but his daughter is really nervous about his wobbly legs. She bought him a treadmill which he is using regularly.

Go Tom!!!

Thanks everyone for your well wishes and prayers,

Brooke
