I'm looking for information on the 61st Combat Engineers.
My dad was in the 61st Combat Engineers they were alsonon-divisional. At times they were in the 1st and 3rd Armies also attached to the 1105th, 1108th, 1109th, 1128th,1134th and other units. They were in Normandy, Northern France, the Ardennes, Central Europe and the Rhineland. They earned The American Theater Service Medal, Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal, European Theater Service Medal and African Theater Service Medal with 5 Bronze Stars.
This week after posting about my No Bridge Too Far Funding Campaign on LinkedIn, a very nice guy named Scott, took it upon himself to TWEET about it to his over 4000 contacts on Twitter. Wow, how very nice. He then contacted me and asked if I would like to join his site/forum, which I did this morning.
It's a very informative and interesting website. Take a gander when you get the chance.
I'm really interested in following the footsteps of a fallen relative in his trek through Italy including his final days thru his death in Pieve Di Pino to his filnal resting place in Monte Beni US tempoaray hospital in Pietramala.
His name was S/Sgt Virgil Bertsch 361st infantry, 91st Div, Co B
Attached are some pics I've found.
First pic is of present day location of the Hospital Site in Pietramala
Final three pics are of an area in Pietramala very close to Hospital location that I feel is the missing location of where the temporary cemetery was located.
After a few year hiatus, it is now time to dedicate myself to the completion of my documentary, No Bridge Too Far. Unfortunately, I cannot do this without the support of my WWII community, so decided to get this off the ground with the online funding site, Go Fund Me.
My campaign went "live" seconds ago. Here is my direct link:
