Farewell Bill Douglass - 1301st Engineer
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 03-12-2014, 03:36 PM - Forum: Announcements, Get Well Wishes & Farewells - Replies (3)

I am copying this verbatim from Bill's page. I just don't have the energy in my heart to start anew. So with heavy heart...:(

Oh how I hate this part of my job, which is now occuring with alarming frequency, as "my boys" approach their 90's and beyond. And so the dreaded letter arrived last night, informing me that my very dear buddy has gone to claim his seat in engineer heaven.

Words never suffice at a time like this, and I find it difficult to be eloquent, as the tears gather in my eyes. Bill and I were steadfast friends and I feel such a loss. I can truly say that I loved him and I know he loved me. He brought so much joy to my heart, which will never be forgotten. He was overjoyed that I chose to share his story with the world, and I have many letters from him, expressing his appreciation. We made a good team.

Some people are so easy to love and he was one of them. Always warm, always a good sense of humor, always willing to pour out his heart.

Bill I shall miss you more than I can say. But I think you know already know that.

Lee and I just finished watching this. When it first came up on the screen, I looked at him and said, that's gotta be the 291st and sure enough it was. Great show tonight.

I actually got to talk with Colonel Pergrin a few years back and we corresponded for a while until he got sick. He sent me signed copies of his books, which I truly treasure.

It was wonderful to see something about combat engineers on TV tonight. Bravo! Well done! Here's to the 291st!

I am looking for any one who might have fought with my father. He was a general mechanic/rifle marksman who was in company C of the 2828th engineers. He was 18 when he entered the war. He spent 12 weeks in New York City (1943) in an electrical course before being shipped to North Africa. He went on to Naples,Foggia,Rome, the Arno, Southern France and the Rhineland. He was in Anzio in a fox hole for over a month. He was in the beach landing in Southern France. Mark Clark was his commanding General and he ended up in occupied Germany until his discharge in December of 1945. His nickname was "the Chief" because he liked to make a decision when no one else wanted too and he also went by the nickmane "Bobby". I am his daughter and would be honored to meet anyone who knew him.

Runners interrupt race to thank WWII Vet
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 03-04-2014, 07:35 PM - Forum: Veterans Tributes - Replies (1)

While the 408k road race benefitting the Pat Tillman Foundation was winding its way through a San Jose neighborhood, runners saw 95-year-old World War II veteran Joe Bell watching the event while dressed in full uniform. That’s when a number of competitors made a beeline for the veteran to offer their thanks, making for an impromptu receiving line.

The touching scene was captured by Julia Prodis Sulek of the San Jose Mercury News.

  T/5 WONG A CHIN
Posted by: YVONNE - 03-04-2014, 05:48 PM - Forum: LOOKING FOR... - Replies (6)

Hello Everyone,

My name is Gregory; I am trying to get in contact with someone who can help me to obtain some informations regarding a member of the 1303rd Engineer General Service Regiment Co E.

His name was Wong Ark CHIN, he was a Tech/5 , he has been killed in 06/06/1945 in southern France, he was a member of the Corps of Engineer. For your information he is buried in the Draguignan Memorial Cemetery (France) and he has a Stone there. I work on the behalf of the Memorial cemetery; I have been given this project to find as much information such as photos, stories, etc… to be able to honor those soldiers killed or died during WW2.

It will be great to have a photo of Wong and to know if someone can get me in contact with his son, I believed he has a son named Roy Ark CHIN.

Can anyone help me out on this task? In advance would like to thank you.

best regards to all

Greg
