Hello!

My father-in-law was a member of the 363D Engineer Special Services Regiment during WWII.  I am finding it very difficult to find any kind of unit insignia / patch for his regiment and may indeed not know exactly what to look for.  Based on his discharge papers, I have identified his badges and medals and the red and white patch with the "castle" on it.  But in some of my researching, I have seen a patch with an elephant on it and the words  "ALLONS NOUS" and a notation calling the group "San Francisco's Own," although I can find nothing to do with San Francisco and his service. Would also love to find out what, in particular, his particular regiment was involved with in the Persian Gulf.

Thank you!

Farewell Tony Stefanelli - 36th Combat Engineer
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 07-25-2018, 06:05 PM - Forum: Announcements, Get Well Wishes & Farewells - Replies (4)

Sad news to my WWII friends...Tony Stefanelli (36th Engineer) passed away Tuesday evening in his sleep. He was 102! Wow! He went peacefully though and I'm sure Carl Furtado and he are having one helluva reunion. Of course we will miss him tremendously. There was only one Tony. Spent many a day with him throughout the years. First pic is Carl on left, then Tony! Second pic is Carl, Tony and Colin Hotham at our hotel in 2015. Third pic is of Tony and me with his birthday pumpkin pie! Fourth pic is Carl and Tony from the war! Stay rugged!

Greatest Generation: WWII Veterans Set Sail To Share Stories With The World
Posted by: lsedels - 07-20-2018, 10:11 PM - Forum: ANYTHING WWII - No Replies

Hi. My name is Larry Edelstein. My Dad was an engineer who was part of the Normandy invasion ... I believe at Utah Beach. He passed away in May of 2012 and I believe the last time I posted here was in August of 2012 to announced his passing.

I was watching the local news before here in NYC and saw this story. A cruise where WWII Vets were offered free tickets to "keep the memories alive". Goal was to get them to recount stories with each other and also to interact with the other "non-veteran" passengers on the ship. Apparently there is an organization called Greatest Generations Foundation that made this possible.

Very touching. What a great story and a nice gesture:

The news anchor who introduced the story, Dana Tyler, was in tears afterwards. Wondering if she also has a connection to someone who fought for us.

Pictures Of My Grandfather 1132nd Combat Engineers
Posted by: remo93 - 07-19-2018, 05:43 PM - Forum: LOOKING FOR... - Replies (7)

These two pictures are of my Grandfather (one wearing glasses and his eyes closed LOL) in France. He was with the 1132nd Combat Engineers and was at Camp Lucky Strike late 1944-45. Was wondering if anyone recognizes the men in the pictures with him? Any information on the men and the 1132nd Combat Engineers would be great

  145th ECB photos and info
Posted by: 145ECB - 07-10-2018, 10:06 PM - Forum: WWII ENGINEERS - Replies (2)

Hi all. I'm just getting started here. I'm working on a website that will eventually have about 180 photographs of bridges and other work carried out by the 145th Engineer Combat Battalion during World War II in the European Theater. So far, I have about 90 photos, mostly of bridges built by the Battalion. I have also posted the Battalion's route across Europe, the unit history, and other information. Please stop by if you're interested, at https://145ecb.wordpress.com/. Leave a comment or information if you have any. Thanks!
