Marion—Check this out. A real well done video and hard to watch with a dry eye... Bob
This is a TERRIFIC museum. Put it on your bucket list!
The Greatest Generation….Let us never forget !
You have to be 17 to enlist in the military. While it is well known that people younger than 17 served in WWII (& other wars) I am going to use 17 as a base. The war ended in 1945 & this is 2015. That means the YOUNGEST surviving WWII veteran is 87. Keep that in mind when you watch the video. Quite a few (in my opinion) do not look their age.
Something I’m sure you’ll enjoy. Hard to watch with dry eyes.
I'm sorry I didn't post this sooner, for it's a couple of months old, but I ran across it this morning. The John this is addressed to, is my friend, Captain John Fallon.
Dear John:
I am very saddened to have to report that M. L. Marsh (Marty), Lake Panasoffkee, FL passed away in August. Marty was Zap’s jeep driver and received the Purple Heart for wounds incurred when his jeep struck a mine in France. (I don’t think Zap was with him at the time.)
I missed seeing his obituary in the local paper in August, but will send a copy of it when I find it.
Marty was laid to rest in the National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. He is survived by his wife, Marie.
Received this request a few days ago. If anyone can help, please respond. Thank you as always! Hello,
My Grandfather is a 94 year old WWII vet. Recently, we were going through some old photos and came across some taken while he was enlisted. One photo was of him and 4 of his service buddies. He teared up thinking about them and wondered if any of them were still living. I would like to help him track them down if at all possible. I asked him what unit he served with and he told me Company A 359th Engineers 1st Platoon. I am not well versed in military lingo so I googled it and stumbled upon your forum. I'm not sure if this is where I need to be, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Pap is very proud of his service and I would like to reunite him with his fellow countrymen if at all possible before it is too late. There are few WWII vets left and I believe their stories should be told. Thank you and God Bless!
We're a small group of reenactors based in the south east of the U.K.
We found that the hard fought history of US combat engineers was not being told in the U.K. unlike other units and so 2016 will be our first year rolling this out.
We can be found on Facebook
I'd like to thank those who run this page for the wealth of knowledge available at our fingertips and the work they do with the veterans truly inspiring.
