Looking up info on the 3051st, for a new member of our forum.

Here is a PDF which shows them as part of the Ninth Army in December of 1944

I can't find a lot on this unit right off, but will continue researching. If anyone can add to this, please post below.

NBC segments including footage regarding the 36th Engineers
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 05-12-2015, 09:36 AM - Forum: TV Shows, Film, Videos - Replies (3)

Recently had the wonderful opportunity to work with Michael Gargiulo, a New York NBC anchor, who called me regarding two segments he was running on May 15 and 16, 2015. It was great seeing the engineers get the exposure they so well deserve.

Many of you will recognize the name and/or the face of Tony Stefanelli, a dear friend and member of the 36th engineers, who turns a very young 100 years of age, later this year.

The segment revolves around the letters of George Parnell, also of the 36th. I've corresponded with his daughter on several occasions, and got to meet her husband Tim, at one of the reunions.

Enjoy!

1st segment

2nd segment

Here's a picture of Michael and Tony.

Farewell Jim Hennessy - 87 Infantry Division WWII
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 04-23-2015, 10:24 AM - Forum: Announcements, Get Well Wishes & Farewells - Replies (4)

Wow, this is one of the toughest ones yet.

Many of you knew Jim, since he was also a forum member. He was one of my earliest contacts, when I started my website. Words will not suffice. How do you wrap someone up in a few simple paragraphs? You can't!

Sigh! I was out celebrating my birthday, when news arrived from "Jimbeau", one of Jim's sons, that Jim had passed away. Oh, what a shock! It was unexpected and sudden. I had just responded to one of his emails, the day before. While I was very sad and broke out into tears, I couldn't help to think about Jim's great sense of humor, and looked up to the sky, saying, "Nice going Jim, you passed away on my birthday, just to ensure that I would never forget you!" Trust me, he was looking down at me with that big grin on his face. That was who he was.

Words cannot express my sense of loss, for we were very close and wrote to each other all the time. He would send me pics of himself, enjoying simple, everyday moments like eating pizza. Cute!

My life will be a lonelier place without you my friend, but it was also a richer one, because of you. Love ya forever! M

Obituary

My loving condolences to his entire family! Special shout-out to his son "Jimbeau", who kept in constant contact. You are definitely your father's son! I look forward to our continued friendship and correspondence. Please send my love to your mother.

Major Rapael Guido Rombauer Grand Army Of The Republic

battles. His remains were at a funeral home and will be returned to

Carthage and laid to rest next to his wife and children. To quote the

military funerals in this area for a long time".

Major Rombauer will be laid to rest with full military honors. The service

will involve an honor guard dressed in period dress along with members of

the Sons of Union Veterans, a musket salute and a cannon salute using a

cannon from Wilsons Creek Battlefield. To quote Steve Weldon, County

Archivist and Civil War Historian "This is not a re-enactment or living

history; this will be the real thing." This is a once in a life time

opportunity.
