Both my dear vets took a tumble during the last week and have some nasty bruises and such to show for it. Luckily, neither one was seriously hurt. No broken bones! Whew!

You guys take care and quit scaring me like that! :pdt::armata_PDT_23::love:

  Stuart W. Mackiernan Sr - 133rd Engineer
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 04-01-2015, 01:07 PM - Forum: WWII ENGINEERS - Replies (2)

Here's a wonderful letter:

Hello Marion,

Thank you for your email. I am Stuart Mackiernan Jr. oldest son of Stuart W. Mackiernan Sr. I came across your forum the other day as I was trying to find any information on the 133rd. I enjoyed reading your description of the 133rd and immediately called my dad and read it to him. He was very excited and interested and asked me to print it out for him which I did. My dad served with the 133rd from D day+1 through to the army of occupation. His rank at VE day was Tech5. I had heard over the years and seen photos of him in the various places you mentioned in your description so I know he was there. He did receive the Bronze star for his action in aiding comrades while under fire. He is 91 now and while not really able to get around with out a walker he certainly has an excellent memory and is able to have very educated conversations on a wide range of subjects from his past to current events. I am attaching a photo of my dad from his 90th birthday with my brother and sister.
Thank you!
Stu Mackiernan
A while later...
Marion,
Thanks. I spent the weekend before last with my dad. I read him the description of 133rd's action in WW2 and he started telling me which Company he was in Etc.
Stuart

Info for 39th Engineer Reunion 2015
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 03-31-2015, 03:56 PM - Forum: VETERAN'S REUNIONS - No Replies

Good Morning,

Jim Shamblen has set up a block of 10 rooms for the 39th association for us that are planning on attending the stand-up of the 39th at Fort Campbell, KY. The date of the stand-up is April 16, 2015; hotel information is listed below. I will be posting this on the 39th group site and also have Walter post it on the website if possible.

Carolyn & I have made our reservations and will be arriving the evening of the 15th with Diane & Gale in tow.

Hope to see you there.

Forgot 1 important bit of information that is needed for the 39th reactivation. CPT Tyandre Ellis who is my main contact at Fort Campbell has requested a list of names so that he can have seating arranged for us as a group; this is so there possibly can be some type of recognition during the stand-up.

If you are planning on attending please let me know by e-mail (listed below) as soon as possible; I have indicated that I will have a list or at least a head count for him next week.

Thank you for your response.

I have set up a block of 10 rooms at the Holiday Inn Ex[press hotel below for the 15th-17th (2 Nights) @ $92 + tax for the 39th ENG BN Association.

Believe we need to get this on the Web Site with an announcement of the activation and as much info as available..

I suppose we could get the block increased if we need to.

I will go down earlier to do some work at the 101st Association HQ.

Classification for soldiers who died while being held prisoner
Posted by: brian m - 03-31-2015, 12:33 PM - Forum: ANYTHING WWII - Replies (7)

Is there a classification (such as KIA) for soldiers who dield while being held prisoner? I have seen some listed as "missing in action or lost or buried at sea". When there is evidence of them being a POW, that description does not seem appropriate.
