202nd Engineers
#1

Recently heard from a gentleman named Don Shearer, whose father Dale (still living), was a member of the 202nd Engineers. We spoke on the phone for almost an hour and I promised he and his dad I would find out all I could about the unit.

I am posting everything I have found so far, and will post further information when I scan pages from my engineer's book later this morning.

Requests/Comments/Answers: My father (same name) was part of the 202nd Engineer Combat Battalion Co C. I would like to get in contact with anyone form this co. or anyone with information about them. My father died in 1974 when I was 5 so I did not get to talk to him about WW II. Thank you

You should also contact the Army Corps Engineers, Office of History. Please ask for Michael Brodhead. Any other of the historians will be able to help you too. Ask them for any info they have on the 202nd Engineers.

As with everyone else. I highly recommend people check out my research section for further suggestions on how to find information regarding WWII units.

Marion,

I am the product manager for Fold3.com, a subsidiary of Ancestry.com that specializes in military records for family history, military, and general historical research.

In addition to our subscription-accessed records, we have an extensive free-access collection, including World War II Air Force photos, Civil War photos, and an interactive Vietnam Wall. We are looking to expand our World War II free-access content and it was while doing research for that effort that I ran across your site. (We will not take content from your site without you agreeing to it, just for the record.)

Specifically, I was looking for someone who had a copy of a book given to those who were discharged from the 202nd Engineer Battalion. Your site surfaced when I Googled “202nd Engineer Battalion”. (Nice site, by the way, and a wonderful honor to your father.)

David, I just posted some links I found earlier today (see above post).

I just contacted one of the 202nd on Facebook. Will let you know when I hear from him.
