Can't thank you enough for that one, Erwin. As you can imagine, I am always very eager to hear another engineer's story from the war. His personal recollections show everyone just how hard and tough it was being a combat engineer. They were up there right at the front and had to fight like anyone else. Many times had to clear the way to make it possible for their infantry brothers to get through.
Him recalling that close call gave me the "willies". Whew! Talk about just missing out.
