...and I'll probably say it a thousand more (that's why I put it in the Shooting The Breeze section).
I can't believe people just throw away the things the good things and keep the junk!!!
I just read the post about the son not wanting the dog tags that his dad left in Italy and was AGAIN reminded of the stuff that people toss out. My mom is the manager at a donation center and people come in there and actually tell her the stuff "belonged to: my dad, my mom, my grandmother, my grandad, my great-grandmother, my whatever...." "it's real old" blah blah blah...
She has received a WWII era nurse's cape (near mint condition), a pair of bib overalls (I don't know what they're really called, but they're green and they're made like bibs) from the "Army Air Forces", and two days ago a big plastic tote of old military uniforms that we haven't looked at yet.
Old handmade quilts, good grief how can you throw out something your grandmother sat there and hand quilted!!
So sad, sad, sad......

Has anyone read any good books lately? I've reached a standstill with reading material and can't seem to find anything that turns me on.
Book sales recently have really been lacking around here; a whole lot of nothing.
I like personal stories about real people, the statistical books put me to sleep.

This one was released in 1943 and first recorded by Bing Crosby and later by Sinatra. It hit the best seller cart on September 9, 1943, topping out at #9.
In all the letters sent from my Grandfather to his future wife (my Grandmother) from September 23, 1943 until the end of the war, he always signed off with a slight variation... "P.S. I love you Sunday, Monday, and Always"

Gee, do you ever get the feeling that this section of the forum simply gets more use than the others as of late? Sigh! My condolences to Larry and his family.
Hello Marion,
My name is Larry Edelstein, son of Irving Edelstein ... on your distribution list and a veteran of the combat engineers corps in WWII (I believe he is seen in the center bottom of the picture that was taken on the Autobahn). I regret to say that my Dad passed away in May. He was 90 and I'm guessing he was one of the few surviving WWII vets. To his last days, he held a strong passion for not only WWII vets but all vets and proper treatment of vets.
I was (and always will be) very proud of him and his achievements in WWII. Many times, he and I spoke about his experiences in WWII ... and we watched "the Longest Day" together. :-) Soon after his death, we discovered a four page narrative that he apparently wrote to a high-school student out in California documenting his experiences in WWII and Normandy. I've since been in touch with this "student" who is now 24 and has since served with the Marines in Afghanistan. He seems to have spent a lot of time on the computer related to this ... unbeknown to us.
My Mom and I continue to miss him deeply, but I am glad that he connected with you. I'm sure that this enabled him to continue his passionate connection with his military service.
Certainly, you can leave his email address on your list for now as my Mom will check it from time to time. Thanks and take care!
