Jim Davis - photos from the war
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 04-28-2012, 07:30 AM - Forum: Our "VI Corps Family" Photos - Replies (4)

Here's a few pics to share with you. Jim and Enrico have been exchanging emails and this is an excerpt from one:

...As to a photo I have a sad story to tell. The Platoon Commander commissioned one of his Sergeants to make a photographic history of the 1204th. The Sergeant did this but sadly the PC never took possession of the photos. When the Sergeant divorced in the early post WW II years his wife got the house and its contents. Among the things she destroyed was the 1204’s photo history. Attached is the only pic of me. It was taken in the Renault dealership in Epinal, France in December 1944. Sorry I can’t do more...

Today as I posted yet another letter from a new listener to our WWII Jukebox, I realized how many letters have come across my desk, and sat back to absorb it all.

So I would like to thank everyone once again for all their kind and wonderful words. They mean so much to me.

This review is by our friend and WWII veteran, John McAuliffe, 87th Inf Div. John posted this on FB and I am sharing with you.

His original intention of taking notes was simply to keep some record for himself so that he could remember where he had been in WW-2 campaigns and what had happened there. Only much later did he realize he was writing a book.....this book.

Lester Atwell was a 35 year old reifleman with the 87th INF DIV. Because of his age of 35 years. he was transferred to the Combat Medics. This book recounts the stories of the 87th division wounded soldiers as Lester met them in the Aid Station. Lester Arwell records the hideous scream of the .88,the moment of courage, the cold the sight and smell of a friend ripped by shrapnell, the suden shock of seeing a German soldier rise like a phantom from the snow, his burp gun spewing death.....meant for you........"AMONG THE GREAT BOOKS OF WW--2 ....Miami News.....
