Goodbye Dear, I'll Be Back in a Year
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 04-25-2012, 11:54 PM - Forum: Great Tunes from WWII - No Replies

The lyrics below are from the version I have on the VI Corps Jukebox. Below these lyrics is a video on YouTube featuring another version, which is quite comical.

GOODBYE DEAR, I'LL BE BACK IN A YEAR

(Mack Kay)

Horace Heidt & His Musical Knights (vocals: Ronnie Kemper & Donna Wood) - 1941

Dick Robertson & His Orch. - 1941

Bob Crosby & His Orch. - 1941

Frank Luther - 1941

RONNIE KEMPER:

Goodbye Dear, I'll be back in a year

'Cause I'm in the army now

They took my number right out of the hat

And there's nothing a guy can do about that

DONNA WOOD:

But when you get back you'll be all tanned and brown

Say, couldn't we buy that cottage right outside of town

RONNIE KEMPER:

Goodbye Dear, I'll be back in a year

Don't forget that I love you

DONNA:

Don't fear, Dear, I'll be here in a year

'Cause I'm true to the Army now

RONNIE:

Ah, what a soldier, you wait and see

Why, I'll be a big gun in the artillery

DONNA:

Now honey, be sure and keep cozy and warm

Gee, you look cute in that new uniform

RONNIE:

Oh, goodbye Dear, I'll be back in a year

Don't forget that I love you

(Orchestral Interlude)

RONNIE:

Goodbye Dear, well I'm here for a year

I'm in the Army now

But don't you worry, the General and I

Are the greatest of pals

DONNA:

Now, Ronnie, don't you lie

RONNIE:

Well, he fixed it up so I could have breakfast in bed

DONNA:

Well, why are you peeling potatoes instead?

RONNIE:

Oh, he's just kidding me

Good bye dear, I'll be back in a year

Don't forget that I

DONNA:

Don't forget that I

BOTH: Don't forget that I love you

Med Det 264th Engr (c) Bn
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 04-25-2012, 12:02 PM - Forum: WWII ENGINEERS - Replies (13)

Dear Marion,

Thank you for your informative website. I've started researching information from my Grandfather's service discharge record from WWII. I'm writing to see if you might be able to direct me to a source of information related to "Med Det 264th Engr © Bn"

Under Battles and Campaigns it states:

GO 33 & 40 WD 45 Rhineland Central Europe

I know the first part states General Orders 33 & 40, War Department 1945, and that he was in Rhineland and Central Europe (information on both is linked to your site). However, I have yet to identify 264th. Any suggestions on finding where the 264th was between Feb 1944 and Nov 1945?

Best,

Jason

Dear Jason:

I suggest using our Research tools and contacting various places such as the Army Corps of Engineer's Office of History, and NARA in Maryland, for starts. There are about a dozen or so links to help you in your quest.

The Scale of the Universe 2
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 04-25-2012, 07:48 AM - Forum: Jokes & Fun! - No Replies

My sister-in-law sent the following to me. This is so cool!

Yacometers?? Scale of the Universe

This may take a while to load, but it's worth it. It is an education in perspective....

Go through it slowly, up, and down . . . . .

Drag the scroll bar from one extreme to the other and back, takes the mind on a real trip...

From the smallest molecule to the vast universe!

Victor's War - by Victor Delnore
Posted by: Christoph - 04-24-2012, 05:42 PM - Forum: WWII Books & Magazines - Replies (4)

The WWII letters of Lt.Col. Victor Delnore to his family, edited by his daughter Patricia Delnore Magee.

I could read parts at books.google.de, but unfortunately only parts, and not the (for me) most interesting days between 09 and 12 April 1945 when he took my hometown Lohmar. The pages online are very impressing and interesting, particulalrly with hindsight seeing the differences between his letters and real life in war.

I've tried to get the book in bookshops in Germany, but it isn't available anymore. Amazon.com still offers it, but for interesting prices - between 9.95 and 266 $, and for "normal" prices only "domestic delivery". If there is anybody who could buy it - used or new - and sell and send it to me for a reasonable price, I would be very grateful :icon_pray: : Please contact me! You should read it before forewarding it :pdt34:
