Comments: My father showed me letters that my grandfather sent home from Italy during WW2. He was in the 643rd Engineers Combat Battalion. I will select a few of the letters to share with the group. They reference the heat and parading for General Truscott in August of 1945. One of the letters also references a new atom bomb. Grandpa writes that if we (USA) decides to drop this bomb, the war should end soon! The striking thing about the letter is that it is postmarked August 8th, 1945. Which as you know, was between the first date (8/7/1945-Hiroshima) and second(8/9/1945-Nagasaki)bomb drops. An unbelievable piece of history and my ancestry that I am thankful to have access to and that my father saved after all these years. Thanks
Admin reply: Fantastic. You have some wonderful, timeless material there. Looking forward to seeing it. All the best, Marion
Comments: My Dad, Gus Bisson, was in Company A, 207th Combat Engineers in WWII. My Dad has passed on, but I have a map that shows 207th participation from Normandy (Utah Beach) until end of WWII. On the back of the map are many names and addresses of those he served with---my Dad was a Platoon Sergeant with Company A. I know that he was also at Camp Swift and participated in the LA Maneuvers before deploying to England on the Queen Mary. Interested in sharing information and maybe trying to locate some of those men who are listed on the back of the map.

Comments: My father served with the 160th Engineers all across Europe. I have the hardcover book of the unit at my home. He always apeaks fondly of the men he served with and remembers many stories from that time.
Admin reply: Jim: Pleased to say that we have quite a bit of info on that unit on the forum. Type "160th" into search box at type right, when you arrive. I think you will be pleased.

Comments: I was looking for info on the 1262 Combat Engineers, but didn't find any. My dad, who is 95 and lives in Washington State, served with them as a sharpshooter to protect those who were putting in bridges. He still is in quite good health, and is involved every year in Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies.
Admin reply: Harold:
We have a bit of info on the 1262nd on my forum. Go there and type "1262nd" in the search box, top right.

Admin reply: Peter, great working with you this past month. Keep up the wonderful work and thanks for including my father.
Comments: My father, Jerry H. Warren, was a buck sergeant who served in Europe (Belgium, France, Germany) from January 1945 through VE day. He was in the Engineers and I remember that his old uniform had a 3rd Army patch on the shoulder. I am trying to research what unit he was in. He and many others boarded a troop ship from somewhere in Europe and sailed for Okinawa in preparation of building facilities and airstrips for the invasion of Japan. He told us that the first atomic bomb was dropped while his ship was 3 days out of Okinawa. The Army Personnel Center could not find his records and said they were lost during a fire.
Admin reply: Nice talking with you on the phone today!
